Cagliari, Cagliari State Archives

The Cagliari State Archives is a peripheral organ of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, dependent on the General Directorate of Archives. It provides for the preservation of documents produced by central and peripheral state offices, pre-unitary and post-unitary, starting from the Middle Ages to the second half of the 20th century.

Why is it important to visit it
The archival collections that constitute the documentary heritage of the Cagliari State Archives amount to about 9 km of shelving. The formation of the historic core of the funds reflects the peculiarity of the events experienced by the island which, starting with the Catalan Aragonese conquest (1323) with the establishment of the Regnum Sardiniae, had its own political, administrative and judicial institutions until the so-called “perfect fusion” with the Savoy State (1847).

Information on tickets and access: On Tuesday and Thursday, from 08:30 to 17:30, the archive opens for the consultation of materials and documents only.

Access mode: Free

Services information: The documents can be reproduced by the photoreproduction service or by their own means, always based on the ministerial tariff. The possible publication of documents is subject to the authorization that is issued by the Institute's Management. The consultation room is open to the public from Monday to Saturday at the same times as the archive. The Consultation Room is closed on holidays, and for the feast of the patron saint, San Saturnino, on October 30. Other details on the services can be viewed on the institutional website of the archive.
