Narcao, Rosas Mine

Narcao, Rosas Mine

Narcao, Rosas Mine

The lead-zinc mine was exploited from 1851 on the threshold of the eighties of the twentieth century between alternate and often dramatic events that saw concession interruptions, changes of ownership, culminating moments and equally problematic crises. It was affected by a bond from the Superintendence for Architectural Heritage of Cagliari, when unfortunately the degradation and stripping of the facilities had already advanced.
In a square, the management building stands on two floors with openings that have frames adorned with Art Deco motifs. A lower body in front housed the post office, while the houses are arranged on a small relief above.
The laveria, already made of wood and replaced around 1940 by another building, only partially preserves the iron production plants, due to the abusive removal of the precious metal.
The mine is part of the Geominerary, Historical and Environmental Park of Sardinia, recognized by UNESCO.

History of studies
The mine is mentioned in works on industrial archeology in Sardinia.
