It is located on the main street of the town in a typical three-story house in Alta Gallura. The rooms have been reconstructed in accordance with the structure and balance of the old Gallura houses. The museum is divided into three floors, carefully reconstructed in respect of the typical environments of local culture between the end of the seventeenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. More than 4000 finds from the center of Gallura are housed. Ground floor. Audiovisual room: allows the viewing of films and for computer and bibliographic consultation. Room 1: tools related to viticulture, winemaking and winery. In particular, “sa cascietta” stands out, a box for pressing grapes, “sa suppressa”, a wooden press dating back to the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, and a condenser still. Room 2 and courtyard: tools and objects typical of agricultural activities (field work, cereal processing) and pastoral activities (collection, transport and processing of milk, harnesses, animal care and management). First floor. The plan re-proposes, in its entirety of furnishings, an articulated domestic environment. Room 3: dining room: composed of a cupboard, a chest for storing bread, a 'platter', hanging platform, and a 'leaf bank', a functional book table that made it possible to easily double the table top, it was the place for meeting and conviviality, the space for dialogue. Room 4: kitchen: in the center of the room there is the traditional “bank 'e su bread', the table for baking. Room 5: bedroom. Second floor. Room 6: machines for processing wool and linen, clothing and fabrics. Room 7: it is dedicated to cork processing techniques, a typical activity in the area.
Summarizing, the following museum itinerary can be indicated: viticulture-winemaking, farm-herding - inner courtyard - kitchen - dining room - bedroom - wool processing and cork processing. There are architectural barriers.
Why it's important to visit it
It's important because it contains the typicality of rural and peasant culture houses, representing Gallura's traditions.
The museum preserves the famous and macabre hammer that in the past was used by 'sas accabadoras', the women in charge of 'putting an end' (from Spanish acabàr) to the suffering of the dying woman on her deathbed. It is an olive branch 40 centimeters long and 20 wide, equipped with a handle that allows a secure grip.
